Battery Storage

Our first battery storage project in Oxspring, Barnsley was from 2017 to 2019. The abbreviated results from this Ofgem funded network study can be found here. The full study results can be found on the Northern Powegrid website. Energise Barnsley held a roundtable discussion of the study results with the project engineer and data analyst which can be found here.

The project was a success, with important findings for a future domestic flexible grid. Our second battery project was part of our Demand Side Response project.

Our third battery storage project, in partnership with AgeUK Barnsley, NEA and Berneslai Homes has installed 75 smart batteries in homes with tenants fitting our AgeUK and Ofgem Redress Funding criteria. Energise Barnsley has commissioned the systems and asset manages the portfolio. Increased electricity bill savings from the batteries for the tenants is significant and Energise Barnsley has used all its experience gained through previous projects to aid tenants in understanding how the solar and battery work, their electricity bill savings and how to make the most of these technologies.

Energise Barnsley continues to make sure that social housing is ‘flexible’ ‘digital’ and ‘decarbonise’ so that it will benefit from a ‘just transition’ to a new low carbon energy system
